Welcome back friends!

Yes just like the title says WELCOME BACK! And also welcome a couple of new friends  :-)

This week, we trying to get back into grove with our routine and getting to know our friends as well.

For craft projects we cut out a flower (tulip) but the children said it looked more like a dinosaur foot, so we cut out a dinosaur foot instead. After we cut it out we used brand new dauber that we just got this week, to decorate them!

Since Monday was very windy out, that inspired us to make kites, we made them out of lunch bags, we decorated them with stickers and markers, then we added streamers. They look great!

Wednesday We made spring snails, with paper plates and construction paper. I drew a a spiral on the paper plates for the children to placed various colors of paper on it Then we traced and cut out a snail body.

Thursday we made ants! Since it's getting nicer outside we've been seeing a lot of ants outside, The children each choose what color paper they wanted to trace and cut out their ant shape. After they cut out their ants, we placed legs and antennas with googly eyes!

Friday we made a flower garden using our arm and hand. We painted our arm green for a stem and blue for the peddle part. They look great!

Since it was such a beautiful week out we spent a lot of time outside, we even had our first picnic of the year!

Dr. Seuss week...

Hello and welcome to Dr.Seuss week! This week we will be celebrating a true icon in early childhood literacy. Through out this week we will be reading lots and lots of Dr. Seuss books! Remember March 2nd is read across America day! So spend some time with your children young or older and read a book together!

Monday we read the foot book! For our project we put bubble wrap on our feet and painted with them. It was silly and fun!! We also implemented rhyming in our weekly theme.

Tuesday we "one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish". For our project each child got a picture of a fish with blue and red outline, then the children had a choice, they could cut blue and red paper with scissors or they could rip it up. (Most of them choose to cut) :-)

Wednesday we didn't have any friends at day care but today (Thursday) we had a blast reading "Fox in socks", there are lots of rhyming words in that book. Today the children each received a picture with a fox face and socks, they colored it in and placed it onto a paper bag to create a puppet.

Today is my last day and tomorrow I will be going on Maternity leave. April 20th will be my first day back. While I am off at this time, I will be taking interviews for a toddler 12 months. And one part time preschooler(2 years or older). If you are interested in my program, please feel free to contact me by email or calling my cell phone. Thank you!

Books, books, books!

Hello and welcome to book week! February is the month all about books, and since my children love reading books, we thought we would have book week, we had so much fun reading our favorite books from home and in the classroom, some of our friends brought books from home share with the class.

Monday: we read "Little mouse, and the red ripe strawberry and the big hungry bear", for today's project we cut out a strawberry shape and painted it with strawberry kool-aid.

Tuesday: "Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?", for today's project I let the children make their own books, the children each picked out the colors they wanted for their books, and then they colored the pictures and afterwards I wrote up what they did in the books!

Wednesday: we read "The itsy bitsy spider", for this project we cut out a spider shape and placed it on a string onto a cup (water spout), this way the children can reenact the song on their own.

Thursday: "Tickle monster" and for this project we made our own monsters out of paper plates, tissue paper and googly eyes.

Friday: We did flannel boards, the children really love doing songs, and playing games. I also have some stories I do with the flannel boards too.

My five senses week...

This week our friends had a short week. Everyone came back on Wednesday! We had so much fun learning about our five senses. I used a Mr. Potato head to show the children our five senses. We also did some smell test and guest what we where smelling. We smelled vinegar, hot sauce, tomato sauce. and hand soap. We did a feel test, I put different objects from around the classroom to place in a bag and the children had to guess what was in it. For our art projects, we traced and cut out our hands, then added different textures to it. We figerpainted with puffy paint, we put paint and shaving cream together to make it puffy looking. We also made 3d art we put yarn in glue and placed it onto paper to make a 3d affect. And for our final project (I didn't get pictures) But we did make a popcorn from a popper. We poured kernels in the popcorn maker, and then watched the popcorn fly out into a large bowl. We used all our senses for this snack. We could smell the popcorn being made, hear it pop, we could see the kernels turn into popcorn, we could taste the popcorn (after it cooled down of course) and we could use our hands to feel the popcorn! Yummy snack!
