Transportation week...

This week we had a blast learning of different ways of getting around our neighborhood or places we need to go. I did ask the children how they like to travel, some said by car, some said by airplane and bike. For our special projects we made, stops lights. Mrs.Danielle traced red, yellow and green circles onto paper the children ripped up red, yellow and green paper to put onto the colored circles.

We made sail boats with different shapes and put them together!

We made airplanes, we painted glued craft sticks together to create wings for the plane. Then the children painted their planes with their choice of color.

We also painted with cars1 We dipped cars into paint and I let the children paint all over their papers! It was messy fun!

Numbers, colors, letters and shapes week...

Each day this week, we will take a subject for example: Monday numbers, Tuesday colors, Wednesday Letters, Thursday: Shapes, and Friday recap on our week. This will help some of our children with recognizing their numbers, colors, letters and shapes!

Monday: We read  "Chicka, chicka, 1,2,3" and we also re-created a Chicka, chicka, 1,2,3, tree! We had a blast painting the tree! We also helped put on the numbers as well. For our art project for the day, we each cut out the number of how old we are, and then we got to paint it.

Tuesday: We made a color collage with various items!

Wednesday: We cut out the first letter of our names and decorated them with stickers and glitter crayons! We also read "Chicka, chicka, boom, boom" and recreated the tree!

Thursday: We made shape snowmen, first we cut out circles and squares and other shapes to make our snowmen!

Friday was a recap on what we went through the whole week, for our art project we cut out our favorite shape and then marble painted it!

Hibernation week...

This week we where busy! We discussed brown bears, Hedgehogs, frogs, mice, and bats.

For our brown bear project we put glue onto coffee filters and then added coffee grounds to it. We added eyes, a nose and ears.

Hedgehog I had my older children cut out the body and the face of the hedgehog and then we added a nose, eyes, ears and we put tooth picks on it's back to create quills!

For our frogs we painted paper plates green, added a tongue.

For mice we made a letter "M" and put eyes, a nose, whiskers and ears on it.

And for our bats, I let the children choose what color bat they wanted it, and then we colored in craft stick and cut out wings.

First week of Traditions

The next couple of weeks, we will be discussing some traditions from around the world. This week we started off with Hanukkah, we sang a raffy song "I had a little dradle". We also played with a a dradle. For our at project, we used our hands as a menorah and then our fingertips for the candle flame.

The next day we talked about Chinese new year. Each child got their own lucky money, I also told them their zodiac sign was. We used chop sticks to pick up pom-poms and Chinese's spoons to scoop up pom-poms as well. We saw a youtube video on a dragon dance and we discussed what the dragon means.  For our art project we made Chinese lanterns, first we cut in the the middle of our paper then we put stickers onto the paper, after we where done we folded the up and hung them up.

For the third day we celebrated two of our friends traditions, around this time of year, they like to sit around their tree at home reading books, they also like to decorate around the house. For their art project we traced and cut out a tree to decorate with wax crayons and glitter!

And for today's tradition we celebrated another friends, they like to go visit Santa around this time of year. This year Santa sent this child an elf on shelf, to watch over that person. We read the book "Elf on a shelf, a family tradition". We also looked at fun pictures from last year's Christmas! For today's art project we traced and cut out stockings, we colored them with markers and put glitter on them too. (TBA on art pictures)

Check out latter next week for more fun traditions in our classroom!

Winter fun/snow week...12/08/2014

We had such a busy week, we loved exploring winter! Even though it didn't snow and the temps where nice outside :-) But we are not complaining.

This week for our projects we made snowmen, first we cut them out and glued on Shredded paper onto our circles, then we added, eyes, a nose, a mouth, buttons and arms, They turned out really cute! After we made our snowmen we got to put the rest of the shredded paper into our sensory table to play with!

Sensory/art: we put shaving cream, glue and white paint onto paper to create snow!

Art/math: Each child laid down on the ground and we took. "Snowballs" paper and measured how many snowballs tall we where. After we where done, we glued them on paper and made snowmen out of them.

Art/fine motor: we painted craft sticks and glued them together to create a snow flake.

Have a great day and next week is Traditions!
